Climate in Court

In 2021 Friends of the Earth Netherlands (Milieudefensie) won a historic lawsuit against Shell. For the first time in history, a judge has ordered a major polluter to align its plans with the Paris climate goals. Shell is appealing this decision. In the meantime, Milieudefensie has called on 29 other large companies to come up with more rigorous climate plans or also face legal procedures. In this ELP Leadership Dialogue Donald Pols, Director of Milieudefensie, will explain why and how his organization puts pressure on large corporates to fight climate change. After his introduction participants will share their personal insights and experiences on their sustainability plans and actions.
