When Risk Appetite Turns Into Cramp

Type: Leadership Dialogue
Speaker(s): Tjalling Tiemstra, Carin Gorter
Date / Time: 21 March 2023 17:00 : 21:00
Venue: Amstel Boathouse

Which price do organizations and society want to pay to reduce risks? That price becomes very high if there is zero tolerance for mistakes, look for example at the billions that banks invest to prevent money-laundering and the financing of terrorism, or the strict Dutch laws to prevent fraud with child allowances. But such a rigorous approach might not be effective nor efficient. A big challenge for leaders is to strike the right balance when it comes to managing risks, not only from a financial perspective but also taking reputation and stakeholder engagement into account. In this ELP Leadership Dialogue a mini-panel will explore when risk appetite turns into cramp. Carin Gorter is an experienced non-executive at TKH Group, Ebusco, Basic-Fit, et al. and Tjalling Tiemstra is a seasoned non-executive and former CFO. After their introduction participants will engage into moderated Roundtable Dialogues about their own attitude towards risks.
